GBPI is extending technical support to Government for strengthening participatory Local Government system in Gilgit-Baltistan. For the purpose, GBPI has drafted Rules of Business of Local Government Commission, Local Government Finance Commission, Local Council Board, District Council, Tehsil Council and Union Council. The GB Government has notified most of these Rules and remaining are in the process of notification. In addition, an agreement between Chief Executive Officer, Aga Khan Rural Support Programme and Executive Director Gilgit-Baltistan Policy Institute is signed on February 9, 2017 in Gilgit for drafting “Recruitment and Pension Rules of Local Government Servants” as part of the continues support for implementation of GB Local Government Act 2014. Keeping in view the past experience and democratic norms the legal team of GBPI will organize stakeholders consultation sessions in GB as part of the process for drafting of such Rules.
